What happens if you put a balloon in the toilet? A fun cleaning tip to try

Even if you clean your toilet regularly, an occasional deep-cleaning will be required. But what if we told you that this chore could be fun thanks to the use of a balloon?

Flushing the toilet causes stains and limescale to develop in and around the bowl and these need to be removed periodically. A balloon could make this chore easier and even entertaining!

As you can see in this video, this technique is really simple and effective.

All you need is a regular balloon - just like the ones you use for parties (perhaps going for a more robust type). However, the balloon must not be very large: when inflated, it must be just a little larger than the outlet of the toilet bowl.

The trick, in fact, is to use this balloon as a plug for toilet: the balloon will prevent the water from draining away.

The other thing you need is a strong, long piece of string: tie one end to the balloon and drape the excess out and away from the toilet bowl. Finally, before inserting the balloon, stick a piece of scotch tape to it on one side.

When you have blocked the outlet with the balloon, prepare your favorite detergent to clean the toilet bowl: a mixture of water and vinegar, or vinegar and baking soda, or even water and citric acid with a drop of dish soap - these are all solutions suitable for dissolving deposits of dirt and limescale from toilet bowls.

Let the detergent act for a few hours and then use the toilet brush to scrub out the bowl. Finally, pull out the balloon (using the string), flush and you're done!

Check out how easy this is, and find out what scotch tape is for in the video below:
