Anything we store in the kitchen cabinets should be protected from cooking fumes and vapors, so that we don't find ourselves using dirty pots or other utensils when we need them to cook. For this reason, furniture is normally always protected by doors, generally made of wood or glass.

But in rustic style kitchens, there is also another option: curtains placed right in front of the shelves, thus covering the part of the cabinet that is open or exposed. Curtains have a protective function, of course, but they contribute to decor of the room. Check out the ideas below.

The choice of fabric, often with very traditional textures, as well as the style of rails on which to hang the curtains helps to give an even more rustic touch to a room.

But simple ones - of a good, plain and light colored cotton or linen - also go well with furniture with more modern lines. A very charming contemporary rustic feel.

They can thus also fit into environments with strong geometric lines, which are softened by this detail that harks back to a bygone era.

There are those who choose curtains for all types of furniture, even under the sink. And they also go well with the "apron" style washbasins, typical of farmhouse kitchens.

If the kitchen is all decked out in shades of white, all very uniform and bright, one curtain between the  can have a flashy pattern or dark contrasting colors.

White curtains, perhaps embroidered, also fit well on a surface of dark wood furniture.

White shelves and dark grey curtains, like the other furniture and appliances: a very pleasant color contrast.

There are those who transform simple dishcloths into curtains for the kitchen, and it also works for those that are used on furniture. And if you want to hang curtains or valances on the windows, they will obviously be matched with those that cover the shelves under the furniture.

A curtain with an exotic pattern, which reflects the colors of the rest of the furniture in the room: a touch of style that really stands out.

Would you like to furnish your kitchen in this way?
