Small living room? Here's 5 paint colors to avoid using in this important area

Furnishing your home can be fun. We choose the furniture, the paints, the arrangement of the objects, etc. But, although passionate, we must be careful not to make mistakes that could be "disastrous" for our rooms. Although some things seem obvious, this is not always the case, and you shouldn't be whimsical when choosing one type of furniture over another. There are many things to consider, and in this article, we want to talk about the colors used to paint the walls of a living room.

In this case, the nuances cannot just follow our tastes. Of course, this is very important, but the size of the living room must also be taken into account and if we really like a particular color, it is best to find out beforehand if it will really be suitable when applied.

If the living room is small, for example, there are 5 colors that should be avoided (or, at least, handled with care). Let's see together what they are:

1. Blue

Blue is one of the colors used extensively in interior decoration projects. It has a brilliant nuance, it brings joy and combines well with many other paint shades - but you still need to be careful. If, in fact, our living room is not large, it is best to consider the choice of paint very carefully. Applying a dark blue would risk creating an excessively closed atmosphere and that's not what we want to achieve, right? Experts say we don't need to abandon using blue in a small space, but we need to use the right shade and combine it with other colors.

It is best to avoid midnight blue and combining blue with many other colors (especially if they are equally dark).

2. White

White, on the contrary, is a bright, light colour. It usually goes well with most furnishings, but it is not a given that it will also look good in our living room. Interior design experts recommend paying attention to the difference between warm and cold shades.

Depending on whether our home north- or south-facing, there will be more or less light in the living room. So, we must be careful about the shade of white chosen. The effect, especially in a small room, may not be what you hoped for, which is why it is advisable to carry out tests first, so as not to make a mistake. In any case, use white with other colors to create "movement". Otherwise, you risk creating a "hospital waiting room" atmosphere.

Don't give up on white, but be careful about how you use it and with what.

3. Red

A strong color and passionate color, red is very popular with many, but it is not necessarily the ideal choice for your living room. If the room is small, choosing red for one or all of the walls may not be the best option as the effect could be "claustraphobic". This does not mean, however, that red should be completely avoided.

If we want to use red, use lighter shades, perhaps tending towards pink, or mixing it with brown. In this way, there will be a greater chromatic "play" and the result will be much more appealing.

4. Grey

Shades of gray are very neutral and go with just about everything - but it might not be right for our living room. Each color has different shades - with more or less light - and we must be careful not to create a "sad" effect with grey in our living room. Of course, grey is elegant and can actually enrich our living room: the important thing is to find the right shade and enhance only the key areas of the room.

Obviously, a lot also depends on how much natural light there is and the way we have arranged the furniture and other furnishing accessories.

5. Yellow

Yellow is the color of the sun and for this reason it is very lively and radiates joy. But it is also a color that, if too bright, could disturb our emotions. Choosing a bright yellow - especially for a small room - could make us feel anxious. Many studies confirm this finding. Color psychologist, Karen Haller, for example, said that using the "wrong" shade of yellow in your living room could create anxiety, nervousness and irritation.

When using yellow, then, it is best to use it only sparingly in limited areas.
