A couple of tips for using towels to make your bathroom look more elegant and fragrant

A clean and tidy bathroom is essential in our homes, but unfortunately, we don't always have the time to deal with it properly during our frenzied, daily lives.

In fact, we frequently find towels piled up around the sink or even on the floor (deposited there by an unthinking family member, perhaps).

Furthermore, especially in winter when the windows are opened less frequently, our bathroom can develop an unpleasant smell of damp because the towels remain humid, developing bad smells.

So how do you ensure you always have a tidy, elegant and fragrant bathroom? Let's borrow a hotel trick that deals with towels:

The secret of many hotels in having bathrooms that always look elegant hinges on the towels: folding them in the correct way can change the appearance of the entire room in an instant - from chaos to elegant in a flash. You can choose to position your towels in one of two ways: folded or rolled up.

• In the first way (folding), simply fold the towel lengthwise, dividing it into 3 vertical sections and folding the left side by 1/3 in the center, then the right side until the corners align with each other. At this point you just have to fold it in half widthwise, making sure that the folds leave any patterns or decorations on the outside. Place the towel on the shelf or sink top and you will immediately perceive the elegant effect. You can also use this method to hang the towels on the towel rail, making sure the two sides are perfectly aligned after folding them with any motifs facing you.
• In the second way (rolling), start by folding the towel diagonally, so as to align the short side with half the length of the long side. Making sure the crease stays in place and the edges are lined up perfectly, fold in half lengthwise. At this point, turn the towel with the fold facing downwards and start rolling it up, starting from the right side. When you reach the pointed end, tuck it into the side of the roll. Your towels rolled up in this way will take up less space and can easily be placed in a basket or drawer.

Obviously these techniques work best if you use soft terry towels, which do not easily show signs of wear or discoloration. Choose colors that match those of your bathroom (or are in harmonious contrast). You can also ensure that your bathroom is always perfumed by preparing a solution to be sprayed directly on the towels by mixing 2 drops of essential oil of your choice in 100 ml of water.
