Dogs and cats are our favorite pets but sometimes they can cause problems. For example, it can happen that our furry friends get into the habit of urinating in the home, on the furniture, sofas, carpets, vases or new objects. How many times have you had to throw away a bag or a new pair of shoes because your pet has peed on it?

The main reason our dogs and cats urinate in the house is to mark their territory. The first thing to do in this case is to create a routine for them by taking them out frequently to do their business or by providing them with a litter box. Sometimes, however, it is necessary to resort to more effective solutions to deter them from peeing inside.

So, how do we do this? There are some ingenious solutions, which will solve the problem in an instant and uses simple, natural ingredients.

There are several natural products that we can use as deterrents for our dogs and cats who urinate inside the home. These products all have a characteristic odor which is unpleasant for our pets and will keep them away from their "toilet spots".

  • Lemon is the best repellent to dissuade dogs and cats from urinating indoors. The strong smell will keep them away from treated areas. All you need is 100 ml of juice, mixed with 50 ml of water and sprayed in areas where the animals usually urinate to keep them away.
  • White vinegar, in addition to being a powerful sanitizer, is perfect for repelling animals. Mix it with water in equal parts and spray the solution on the relevant areas, leaving it to act for at least 30 minutes.
  • Hydrogen peroxide is loathesome to animals and can be used to make them stop urinating in certain spots. This remedy is particularly useful for protecting sofas and armchairs.
  • All citrus fruits have the same repellent effect as the aforementioned lemons on our pets. Again, mix 100 ml of citrus juice with 50 ml of water and spray on the relevant areas.
  • Finally, alcohol is a perfect deterrent, as well as being a powerful sanitizer. Use it mixed with water, but be careful not to spray it on plants.
