Plants can help us in many different ways, including in our everyday lives. We all know, for example, of the innumerable uses for aromatic herbs in the kitchen. And one of the most widespread and appreciated herb globally is rosemary. Tasty and fragrant, we use rosemary to flavor many dishes. And it is a herb which is robust and easy to grow.

Rosemary, however, is even more than just a food flavorer. It is, in fact, a plant with multiple beneficial properties, which can be exploited in various other non-culinary ways. We know, for example, that an essential oil is extracted from it which is useful in many cases for our well-being. Read on to find out more:

Rosemary is a plant with balsamic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and more. But chief amongst its benefits, are those linked to its aroma. In fact, rosemary is recognized as having the ability to relax one, improve concentration and aid mnemonic skills. Spreading the unmistakable scent of this plant in the home, therefore, helps us to stay more alert at work or when studying, and even improves our mood.

Taking advantage of rosemary like this is simple: if you happen to have a fresh sprig of it at home, all more you need is a hot oven. Proceed as follows:

  • Turn on the oven to 150°C;
  • Insert a rosemary sprig inside the oven;
  • Leave it in (with the door closed, of course) for 10-15 minutes;
  • Turn the oven off and open the door.

Obviously, you can also take advantage of the residual heat to do some cooking, if you wish.

The rosemary sprig will now be dried out. At this point, the wood and the leaves will release their aroma and can be placed in aromatic sachets (potpourri) which can be placed in wardrobes, closets, drawers and pantries. In this way, your home will remain pleasantly scented, and - since rosemary is an unpleasant smell for many insects - it will also help repell these unwanted guests from your home.
