Decorating the home and garden with flowers is nothing new, but knowing how to create works of art by creatively recycling old, worn out objects, is a completely different story. Planters of all kinds - whether they are hung from the roof or branch, or are large containers for raised flower beds - are always elements that add something surprising and pleasant, which enlives the landscape and enriches it even in the most bland spots.

It is great to find objects that are destined to be thrown away and then discover that they can become planters capable of hosting beautiful flowers and, perhaps even succulent plants. Depending on your tastes, the decorations in the garden and the plants you want to grow, planters made from recycled objects can become an opportunity to let your creativity shine through.

Colanders and vegetable strainers: these items made of enameled metal, (or perhaps which you have specially repainted), can be transformed into flower baskets to hang up wherever you want. A little coir (coconut fiber) to line the inside, a bit of soil and finally your favorite plants, will create an adorable composition.

If you have any old, ceramic or metal teapots, they are perfect for hanging arrangements composed of succulent plants, but also are great as vases for seasonal flowers!

Then there are many types of lanterns that can be converted into creative planters!

If you have any old watering cans - especially the vintage-style galvanized metal ones - they will be adorable as plant and flower pots.

Shoes of all kinds: boots, including rain boots, but also more formal boots (with heels, for example) can be transformed into plant containers. You can find a way to recycle any shoe with a bit of imagination.

A trend that remains popular is that of converting wooden (or metal) step ladders into original plant pot stands.

And if by chance you find an old bathtub - especially a freestanding one with legs -  you could consider using it as a flower bed in the garden. Or maybe make a miniature water garden out of it.

Even bicycles transformed into plant pot holders have a timeless charm!

American-style mailboxes lend themselves to becoming very nice planters, usually by cutting out the center bit.
