Summer has finally arrived and with it, so has intolerable heat; it's difficult to find relief on these hot days, even in the evenings.

When the heat of summer nights becomes unbearable, it is difficult to sleep peacefully and, if we are unable to cool our bedrooms down, the nights can turn into an ordeal. And if air conditioners are effective, they can be very expensive to purchase and use.

Fortunately, there are many tips that we can use to keep ourselves cool on summer nights and we suggest some of these below:

There are several tips you can use to keep your room cool on summer nights:

  • One infallible tip is to wet a light cotton sheet with cold water and lay it on the bed. The slow evaporation of the water will help keep your room cool throughout the night. If you don't like the feeling of a damp sheet against your skin, however, you can hang the wet sheet over a window instead. The air entering the room will pass through the sheet, creating a fresh breeze during the night.
  • Opening all doors and windows during the cooler hours of the day and night helps circulate the air and keep it fresh and cool; remember to close blinds and curtains during the hottest hours of the day to prevent your home heating up. You can also place a fan in front of an open window to increase the cooling effect.
  • Place a bowl of frozen water or ice in front of a fan: by blowing on the water and ice, the fan will create a cool breeze that will immediately lower the temperature.
  • Bottles of water can also be useful for beating the heat: put them in the freezer and, when it's time to go to bed, wrap one in a cloth and take it to bed with you.
  • A last tip to is to turn off all electrical devices, including lights, to prevent them from generating heat.

By following these tips, your sleep will never be disturbed by the heat, even on the hottest summer nights.
