There are many tips and tricks regarding hair care online, and some seem very bizarre. Sometimes, these tips arise from an accidental discovery by someone who then decides to share it online. And one of this odd ideas is using a colander as a substitute for a hairdryer's diffuser attachment.

Liz Fox Roseberry is an influencer who showed off the results she got by using a colander instead of a proper diffuser. So, does it really work? It is to be recommended? Read on to find out more:

Liz Fox Roseberry has revived a tip that circulated a few years ago: using a colander made of fine mesh netting to spread the heat of a hairdryer out over the entire surface of the head, just like a diffuser does. And we know, of course, using a diffuser is for those with curly hair (or those who want more volume to their hair).

The colander tip was, of course, immediately tried out by many who read Liz's blog, and they shared their results online. One of these sharers was Hannah Teslin, who showed the effect obtained on her own hair, comparing it with that of the original video. You can watch the clip in question below:

As you can see, this tip seems to work, but some risks were pointed out:

  • If the heat is set too high, you risk burning your hair. The colanders used are made of metal and conduct heat very quickly and easily. This does not happen with the special diffuser attachments for hair dryers, which are generally made of heat-resistant plastic.
  • Furthermore, this efficient transfer of heat can be damaging to fine, soft hair.

In short, following this tip can be effective as an emergency remedy but it should not become a habit. Would you try this?
