Colorful tulips: discover how you can make splendid ones using crepe paper

Tulips are cheerful, colorful flowers and a real feast for the eyes. Having fresh bunches of them around can give any environment an elegant look that everyone can appreciate. And they are also a classic symbol of love and life.

Of course, always having fresh tulips at home can be challenging (and expensive!). But one option is to go for artificial tulips. This is not the same as having real ones, but they can look good and making them yourself can be fun too.

The DIY artificial tulips project we describe below uses crepe paper and can give some stunning results. Read on to find out how:

For this project, you will need:

  • Colored crepe paper (red is the most popular)
  • Aluminum foil
  • Wooden sticks
  • Hot glue
  • Empty potato chips tube
  • Oasis sponge
  • Cord or twine
  • Cotton thread

To make the flowers, proceed as follows:

  • Cut a number of long, flat strips of the crepe paper;
  • Fold each strip in the center, doubling it and giving it the shape of a petal;
  • Create lots of petals in this manner and set them aside;
  • Make a ball from the aluminum foil, cover it with a small piece of crepe paper and insert a wooden stick into it, which will act as a stem;
  • Start placing the petals on the ball in layers;
  • Once the tulip is completed, secure the petals to the underside of the ball with cotton thread;
  • Cover the wooden stem with green crepe paper and move on to make more tulips in the same way.

The procedure for creating the container into which you are going to put your tulips is also quite simple:

  • Take an empty potato chip tube and cover the base with a circle of green crepe paper and some hot glue;
  • Inside the jar, place the oasis sponge for the flowers where the tulips' stems will be inserted and cover with another disk of green crepe paper;
  • Separately, make crepe paper tongues that simulate grass and which you will cover the body of the tube with;
  • To complete the composition, attach twine to the base with hot glue and add other details as desired (such as a bow made of ribbon, or some other, similar decorations).

Once the tube container is complete, you can go ahead and assemble your composition, inserting the flowers you have previously created into it. Now, stand back and admire your creation!
