Mats: we step on them every day, and the gather many different types of dirt - from dust, to mud, to sand. And if we usually take our pets in the car, there will also be a lot of hair and maybe they will begin to smell. And car mats are amongst the dirtiest that these mat-like protectors can become.

Fortunately, they are detachable and can be cleaned quickly - you just need to bang them vigorously against a hard surface regularly. But there comes a time when we cannot a more thorough washing - one that will makes the mats look like new again.

We usually choose sunny days to do this chore, because we know it will a few hours for them to dry out completely and be put back into the car. But this process can be speeded up with a simple tip.

This tip is effectively shown by TikTok user, @maizimmy, on her account.

In the video, we see the woman who takes out the car mats, arranges them on the garden path, and then sprays on a cleaning product. It is not specified which one it is, so you can use your favorite cleaner (or perhaps even a specific one just for cleaning the upholstery of a car). But a good degreaser is sufficient to do this task.

For rinsing, a pressure washer is used, with a jet of pressurized water which is always very useful to speed things along. Failing that, even a garden hose can work (perhaps by putting your finger over the opening so as to make a more concentrated jet).

@maizimmy adds that at this point she takes an extra step, pouring some dish soap on the mats, to wash them again. In this case, it is best to carefully spread the soap over the surface with the help of a brush or a broom with fairly stiff bristles.

Then she rinses again. And now, comes the tip that cuts the drying time in half: she uses a squeegee (like those used on glass shower panels). She passes it carefully, section by section, over the mat, applying pressure to dispell the water.

You can see in the video how much excess water is released from the fibers of the mat. Once done and the mats placed in a sunny and breezy spot in the garden, they will dry in no time!
