Make your life easier: discover the furnishings and accessories to avoid buying

Often, the furnishing solutions that attract us the most at the time of purchase do not turn out to be so great when we are  cleaning the home. There are pieces of furniture and accessories that are beautiful to look at, fully meet to our aesthetic needs, but then turn out to be complicated to clean due to their shape or the materials they are made of.

So, at the time of every new purchase, anyone with a passion for cleaning should think about what will make their job easier in the future. It is not easy to immediately identify these strengths and weaknesses so it can be useful to get the opinion of those who deal with cleaning professionally, such as TikTokker @cleanhappyco.

A series of videos uploaded by the TikTokker begins with "typical" surfaces that can be found in many kitchens. She is the first to say that she finds certain light fittings and furniture very beautiful, but, over time, has come to hate them, since they become dirt traps and are difficult to clean.

What are some examples?

  • Hanging light fittings with intricate shapes: In particular, light fittings that are above worktops attract her ire. They can be very beautiful, she admits, but when the lampshade is made from some sort of lattice, it takes a lot of time to remove grease and dust that lurks in every nook and cranny.
  • Wall units and furniture with carvings and moldings: This is another case in which the aesthetic value is undeniable, but the effort to clean them is not worth it. Moreover, she tells her, she often enters homes where people were convinced that they had cleaned the furniture by simply polishing. "But that just means adding a layer of something on top of the grease and dust. You always have to degrease properly first," she advises.
  • Open shelves: From an aesthetic point of view, they lighten the decor and are super trendy ("I really wanted them in my home too," confesses the TikTokker). But all the dust and grease that comes from cooking is deposited on them too. So you need to know that open shelving will involve extra work.
  • Wall units that do not reach the ceiling, and leave a space. These spaces will with dust, cobwebs and dirt and is also difficult to reach. This factor is often overlooked.

In the end, these are questions of personal preference, but it can also be useful to think in terms of ease of cleaning when furnishing a kitchen. In her video (and here is the second part), you can also see some alternatives which, according to this TikTokker, are equally beautiful but much more cleaning-friendly!
