11 surprising ways to recycle bed frames and mattresses

If there is something that we would not really consider recycling when it can no longer be used, bed bases, mattresses or bed frames are probably top of the list. These are usually metal objects that, over time, can rust or lose those characteristics that make them usable for their primary purpose (the springs go, for example). And in fact, bed frames cannot be restored to their primary function but, with a little imagination, they can become pieces of furniture with a truly unique charm.

Supports for hanging objects, fixed to the wall or to the wall, and also decorative elements in general: the old springs of a mattress and bed bases can provide a rustic, shabby chic or grunge look, depending on the case. Take a look at the designs below:

A bed from that is still in good condition and is not too big - such as those from children's beds, for example - can be repainted and fixed to a wall: it could be used as a support for appliques, picture frames and more.

A bed base mounted parallel to the ceiling lends itself to becoming a support for hanging clothes on to dry using hangers. And without taking up any ground space!

Another idea for small frames: a wall panel to which any object can be fixed using clothespegs and hooks!

If installed above a desk, they become truly original wall organizers, perfect for those who love a rustic style.

And by adding baskets to them, they can be used in even more ways - even outdoors.

A frame that hangs from the ceiling can also become the support to hang up pots and pans in the kitchen, (or maybe even ceramic cups and mugs).

A light placed in each spring of a mattress will give birth to a memorable room partition.

As an alternative to using lights, use large, decorative crystals: this will give a decidedly shabby chic flavor.

And why not create a unique outdoor chandelier for the porch?

There are those who also use them for the veranda: they would certainly be an eye-catching feature that will attract attention.

Even wrapped with strings of lights and suspended above a bed, they become the whimsical alternative to the normal bedroom light fitting.

Would you like to recycle old bed bases and mattresses in these ways?
