10 ideas to try to furnish your home using old or DIY ladders

One of the hottest trends in recent years is that of recycling an old ladder and using it as a piece of furniture: it can become a useful accessory as some type of object holder, or even decorate an area at an architectural level, perhaps as a sort of ceiling beam or strut with a more aesthetic purpose than a real, structural one.

Depending on the use, you can use real, everyday ladders - like those once used as proper work tools (in wood or metal) and modify them using DIY projects. Here are some ideas for all these various examples to inspire you:

You don't need to be an expert in carpentry: a few pieces of wood (strips) cut out to the right size and painted in the desired color; and then hammer and nails, or drill and screws, and in a short time a ladder sturdy enough to be used is created to perhaps to store throws and blankets in the living room, towels in the bathroom or even to hang up your photo frames.

If you want to use a ladder for purely decorative purposes - as a support to adorn with photos or with LED light strings (for Christmas or even to provide illumination for the rest of the year in a unique way) - you can get some branches and rope to make a (very) rustic ladder framework.

In addition to being accessories, ladders can become functional elements of the home's furniture: for example, a sturdy ladder could act as a shelf to take advantage of the space which is close to the ceiling and to store objects that are rarely, or infrequently, used.

And this idea can also be transformed into a decorative display, even by using multiple ladders fitted together.

There are those who hang them directly from the ceiling or on the wall as if they were beams, and also in the threshold of the doors.

Two equal pieces of a ladder (or two identical ladder), placed one on top of the other horizontally, could cover a sufficient surface to be used as a dividing element between two areas of a room.

Sometimes they are hung from the ceiling over a table and are adorned with plants - even artificial ones, creating an original decorative arrangement...

...or are fitted with lights, effectively transforming them into fascinating chandeliers.

Another area where ladders can be used as a support for placing or hanging baskets of plants is in the bathroom, where many species find an ideal habitat due to their need for humidity.

And then they are also attractive when used in the outdoor spaces of the house - perhaps those areas which are somewhat protected (such as balconies and porches or under canopies and awnings), where they often become useful planters.

Have you ever used a ladder to decorate your home?
