Valentine's Day is the day in which we want to do something especially pleasing for the people we love, and with striking displays that show our affection. We can therefore show our emotions to our partners, and also to the closest people in our lives, through giving them some object created with our own hands, to remind us all of the bonds that unite us to them.

If you feel like having fun with a sewing project, and one which is really very simple and affordable even for beginners, there are several projects to try your hand at, and we offer you some adorable ones below:

If the person we want to surprise with our gift is an avid reader, a personalized bookmark will always be a welcome present and it will really be used. With a patchwork technique, you can create an infinite number of different types, and since they are small objects, they are indeed the ideal project to get carried away with. And once your skills have developed and are honed, then perhaps venture out into creating more complex bookmarks.

Combine fabrics with simple patterns and maybe even use wool or thin felt for bookmarks which can then be further personalized.

Another useful object in everyday life certainly are pot holders acting as oven mitts, which we use while preparing our dishes. You can easily create a pot holder that also acts as a glove, if necessary, using the shape of a heart, the symbol par excellence for Valentine's Day. You can use scraps of fabric, and if you also want to stuff the inside with scraps of special sheets for padding, and you can also splash out with a myrid number of colors: when the shape is that of a heart, you don't necessarily need to emphasize the meaning with red or pink fabrics!

Valentine's Day falls in the coldest period of the year (in the northern hemisphere, of course), so a hand warmer is another useful as well as romantic idea. Two scraps of felt, muslin or other light fabric to line the inside and then everything filled  with rice, so you can microwave (30 or 45 seconds) and heat up this enchanting heart - which will bring comfort on the coldest days.

This is an easy and very fast project: you just have to cut out a felt heart and sew it on a pillowcase of your choice: you can choose to use only the heart as a decoration, sewing around the whole shape; or make it become a pocket in which to insert love messages, and then you just need to sew 3/4 of the outline, leaving the upper part free as a letterbox.

Another very simple project to make with felt and a little synthetic padding, or maybe even colored wool and wadding for padding. You simply have to cut out the shapes of the letters (always a little larger than you imagine, since you have to consider padding and stitching the borders), sew the two halves of each together leaving only one flap open to comfortably insert the padding and then finish closing them by sewing the last open piece. At that point they are ready to be hung as you wish.

Happy Valentine's Day!
