Disposable razors get blunt quickly. This means an ongoing financial cost to us and increased pollution of the environment. So, finding a (cheap) way to sharpen them could be very useful...

And you can! All you need is a piece of denim material: you can use old pair of jeans for this purpose, for example. The process is easy and very quick:

  • Lay the denim out on a flat surface;
  • Make sure the razor you want to sharpen is completely dry;
  • Rub it on the denim, in the direction opposite to the shaving direction, for about 20 strokes.

That's really all there is to it! This tip will help to make your razors last a little longer: it can't work miracles and make the blades like new again, but it will definitely prolong their lives somewhat.

Over time, however, is inevitable that razor blades will get blunt and there are several reasons why this is.

Amongst these reasonsare that they corrode due to exposure to hard water, rust develops on them due to humidity, and use dulls their fine edges. And a blunt razor can cause cuts and nicks which could, in turn, become infected.

To extend the life of a normal razor, do the following:

  • Clean the razor thoroughly after each use: use an old toothbrush to remove hair, skin and other debris - as well as soap and rinse properly;
  • Dry with a towel after each use/wash: leaving water on the blades encourages the development of limescale and rust;
  • Use oils: there are oils for electric razors that can also be used on disposable razor blades that will retard the formation of rust or limescale on the blades. However, make sure that all the oil is removed before shaving.
  • Always use fresh water when shaving, and don't just rinse the razor off in a glass. Generally, installing systems to soften the water at home will help keep razors sharp for longer.

These tips should help prolong the lives of your razors, saving you money and helping to protect the environment!
