There is no room in the home where it is not desirable to have a nice scent in the air, but certainly, the top priority is the bathroom. We are particularly sensitive to any bad smells emanating from the bathroom and need to deal with this eventuality.

Below, you will find some good advice about how to prevent your bathroom from giving off potentially embarrassing, offensive smells - particularly important for when we have guest around, for example.

  • Never put off the cleaning: It may seem trivial, but making a habit of daily cleaning makes it less of a burden in the end and allows us - occasionally - to relax a bit if we're very tired. The most problematic area, as we know, is the toilet itself. A quick daily cleaning and a more thorough once every week will eliminate any risk of odors developing. And never forget to use (and clean) the toilet brush!
  • Clean the drains: In your weekly or fortnightly cleaning, deodorize your drains - including the bath, sink and/or shower drains.
  • Keep an eye on the towels: Towels get humid, of course, and should be changed once or twice a week. And when they become rough to the touch, it's time to replace them.
  • Ventilation: Opening the window of the bathroom for at least half an hour once or twice a day is particularly important for preventing smells from developing.
  • Air fresheners (including DIY versions): Essential oils in baking soda or dripped on creation fabrics and materials (like on toilet paper rolls), incense, potpourri, scented candles... Everyone has their favorite scents and scenting methods and they all help make the bathroom smell good.
  • Plants that love humid environments: The most famous of these are ferns. But depending on the conditions, many types of plants can help to improve air quality.
  • Anti-humidity systems: You may need to use a dehumidifier machine or alternatively, you can try one of many DIY remedies (usually based on using bicarbonate of soda or salt).

These tips may seem obvious, but do you actually use any of them?
