The ideal remedy for cleaning your wooden floors effectively removes stains and sanitizes the entire surface, while nourishing the wood. For this, you will need two simple ingredients: white vinegar (to clean and sanitize), and vegetable oil (to nourish the wood).

Prepare your own floor cleaning detergent by mixing 250ml of water with 125ml of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil. If you like, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for  a pleasant fragrance. Mix all the ingredients together and decant the mixture into a spray bottle. Then, mist the surfaces and clean them off with a microfiber cloth or soft mop. This mixture is perfect for wooden floors and also acts as an anti-mould and anti-limescale remedy.

Using the spray bottle will ensure you do not over-wet the flooring. Alternatively, you can use a well-wrung-out cloth or rag.

Some other natural remedies that can help us clean our floors are:

  • A mixture of water and alcohol will give you excellent results and will not damage the wood.
  • Mix 15-20 drops of lemon juice with 125 cl of olive oil and distribute this mixture on the surface using a spray bottle. This is a perfect method to nourish the parquet and degrease it thoroughly.
  • Then, there is a more complex method which is still worth trying: boil 1 liter of beer with two teaspoons of beeswax; when the liquid has partially evaporated and the wax has melted, let it cool down and spread it over the entire floor. Leave to dry and then wipe off with a soft cloth. The beeswax in this remedy regenerate any damaged areas of the floor.
  • If you notice any scratches on your floors, treat the affected part with olive oil: this will help bring back the original shine.

Now you are ready to get stuck in and clean your wooden floors!
