The garden is a space that deserves to be used as often as possible: it is our corner of greenery outdoors  and it is worth furnishing it to allow us to take advantage of every corner in the various seasons. From the end of winter until the first cold, for example, being able to have a protected space under which to set up lounges or corners where to eat is a pleasure we deserve to give ourselves.

If there are no architectural structures or large trees to shelter some particular area, then you can take advantage of the convenience of a pergola. Whether they are secured to the home or self-supporting structures, there is charm in each. Check out the ideas below.

A wooden pergola leaning against the outside wall of the house, usually the sunniest one, offers an oasis of relaxation on the hottest days. If it is not completely enclosed by panels or tiles of various materials, it is also excellent as a trellis for climbing plants.

Some designs are more modern, but always very welcoming. A dark structure, for example, can be combined with a thousand different styles.

Any wrought iron structure, even very simple, becomes a showcase with plants and lights.

Then there are the structures with walls, even self-supporting, which can have a closed or uncovered roof: it all depends on the type of season typical for the area. Sometimes only the shade given by the plants will be more than enough.

No wall to lean on? Don't worry, a gazebo/pergola will create the space you want in the middle of the garden.

Simple wooden planks, with gaps between them: there are many models to choose from.

For green thumbs it's a dream to be able to take advantage of nature to create a shaded corner, perhaps even with flowers. Here then, even simple supports such as iron bars between two walls are sufficient.

A small canopy close to a wall or fence: here is a small pergola to take advantage of new spaces in the garden.

And who says wooden pergolas have to have a traditional or rustic look?

The wood of these structures will still need to be treated and maintained. Otherwise, you can invest in machined metal supports - which still require maintenance - but certainly less frequently.

In order to take advantage of these spaces even in rainier, colder periods, especially in the case of pergolas close to the house, it is advisable to consider a cover, and to avoid blocking the sunlight, transparent panels of various materials are the ideal choice.

Who knows, maybe you can also consider closing off the sides with transparent walls, for a sort of greenhouse in which to stay all year round.

Which idea do you like best?
