What a wonderful feeling it is to lie down on a sofa or sit in your favorite armchair and feel enveloped in a perfumed cloud! When we tidy up the living room, of course, we would always like to get this result. The first step to ensure a fragrant living room, of course, is to keep it tidy and clean it regularly. But even with regular house cleaning, we don't always have a pleasant aroma in the room.

So, how can we always ensure a pleasant scent permeates the living room? Read on to find out how:

As mentioned, the first thing to do is to clean the room. Dusting and washing the floor are probably things we all so, but how often do we notice the smell of the upholstery?

Given this, once a month, it is a good idea to deodorize sofas and armchairs. The easiest method is to vacuum up all the dirt first, and if you notice any stains, remove the cushions and covers wherever this is possible: all these items should then be washed. Additionally, make sure you have the right attachment on your vacuum cleaner to reach inot all the crevices and tricky spots, especially in corners and along seams.

Once this is done, and when everything is dry, sprinkle some baking soda all over the sofa, leaving it on for an hour or two before vacuuming it up: it's not good to leave this powder on the upholstery for too long, so make sure you get it all up. This way you will elimate the odors the baking soda has absorbed.

Now comes the time to perfume. To do this, equip yourself with:

  • A spray bottle
  • Ethyl alcohol or pure vodka
  • Distilled water
  • An essential oil you like

Fill the bottle three-quarters full with the water, and add the alcohol or vodka. Mix well and add 20 drops of one or more essential oils of your choice. Always shake well before use.

You can spray this product directly on the sofas or on the cushions and throws that you keep in the room ready for use. This will drive away bad smells, but be careful: make sure that the fabrics the mixture will come into contact with will not be ruined by alcohol. Check the manufacturers' instructions or do a test on a hidden part of the fabrics.

Now, your washed cushions and throws will be even more fragrant thanks to this simpletip! It is advisable to use this spray product only on items that can then be washed, such as blankets, pillows and cushion covers.
