Floor detergents are an indispensable product, but when it comes to choosing one, it is often hard to find the right one for our floors. Depending on the material they are made of, floors need specific products and could be ruined by a wrong detergent. And once you have found the right detergent, then it's time to choose the fragrance. And what about the environment? In short, the purchase of a floor detergent can be a real pain.

If you want to save yourself the trouble of choosing the right detergent, you want to do the environment a favor and you like DIY, you can try your hand at preparing a homemade detergent for your floors. In this article we suggest 3 recipes, one for each type of floor.

Wood and parquet floors, as well as those made from marble and natural stone, are the most delicate floor types, but we can still wash them with a specific, non-aggressive detergent. We can use two ingredients to make this detergent: baking soda and Marseille soap.

To make this detergent, melt a piece of Marseille soap in a bain-marie, then put it in 3 liters of warm water together with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix everything together and mop the floor with it (or use a damp microfiber rag).

The most resistant floors are those made from stoneware, terracotta or concrete and these can be treated with a detergent with greater degreasing power. To make it, you can use coarse salt and vinegar: heat 200 ml of vinegar and dissolve 3 tablespoons of coarse salt into it. Remove from the heat, let it cool and add to 3 liters of water - then wash your floor with the mix.

As an alternative to coarse salt, you can mix the vinegar with denatured alcohol with a spoonful of Marseille soap flakes or a drop of dish soap.

If you have several different floor types at home and are looking for a universal detergent, you can make this with vinegar and lemon. First of all, squeeze and filter the juice of a lemon, then add it to 300 ml of white vinegar and 500 ml of water. Mix well and transfer a bottle. Dilute 20 ml in 3 liters of water to wash all the floors in your home, especially those with porcelain and/or terracotta tiles.
