We are all familiar with the fact that cutlery, even when it has just been washed and taken out of the dishwasher, can still have stains on it.

Spoons, forks and knives - especially those in stainless steel - are particularly susceptible to this problem. The stains make the cutlery look dirty. And the problem becomes more pressing when you are expecting guests and you want to make a good impression.

However, there is a very simple tip to remedy this small, but annoying, inconvenience.

@carolina.mccauley is a famous TikTokker who specializes in household tips. She has published a video in which she shows us how to get spotless cutlery. The tip involves the use of a sheet of aluminum foil (tin foil) and can be briefly summarized as follows:

  • Take a sheet of aluminum foil and roll it into a small ball.
  • Load the dishwasher as usual and add the aluminum ball to the cutlery basket.
  • Close the dishwasher and start a regular wash cycle.

At the end of the cycle, the cutlery will come out incredibly shiny. The explanation for this is the chemical reaction triggered by the contact between water at high temperatures, the aluminum material and the bicarbonate contained in most dishwasher tablets. It's the same principle that underlies a famous cleaning tip is used to polish silverware. In the case of the dishwasher, it might seem that the "magic" is the aluminum/tin foil. But, in fact, it is the chemical reaction that is magical.

If you want to see how it's done in detail, watch @carolina.mccauley's video. You will be very pleasantly surprised by the results you get.
