How quickly does dust settle in your home? And dusting is a tiresome chore... unless we help ourselves by using a plastic bottle. In fact, plastic bottles that we typically throw away can help us keep the home clean - especially when we are doing jobs that will kick up/produce dust.

This DIY tip is very easy to do and all you need is basically just a simple plastic bottle.

This tip allows you to catch all the dust produced when drilling holes into a wall. The bottle becomes a sort of cup that is placed around the drill bit, and captures all the dust.

First: what kind of bottle will we need? Almost any plastic bottle will do, but robust ones are the best (so they don't warp too easily).

1.5 or 2l plastic fizzy drinks bottles are ideal, but almost any other plastic bottle will do.

Then you need a pair of scissors, a felt-tip pen and a lighter.

How to make a plastic bottle dust-catcher

You will need the top of the bottle, near (and including) the neck. Start by cutting the bottle in half, and keep the top. Then, make an oblique cut a few centimeters below the top of the bottle itself.

Now that you have a cone with a very wide base, keep the tip (where the lid is) towards you, and mark a point near the opposite end with the marker. Then heat the tip of a drill with the lighter, and use it to create a hole where marked.

You are now ready to insert the drill with all its tip into the hole, place the base of the plastic cone firmly on the wall (with the bottle cap closed) and start drilling. When all the dust has been collected in the bottle, you can easily pour it out into the trash. And you can use your new "tool" for you next DIY job.
