Almost certainly, at some point, you will have had to try to untie a very tight, difficult, stubborn knot. And how many times have you damaged your nails trying to do this? And have you ever just given up and cut off the knot to "solve" the problem? Whilst doing so may get rid of the knot, it usually means replacing the item that was knotted too (like a shoelace, for example).

Did you know that there is a foolproof technique to untie tough knots? You can use this technique at any time and by using a simple tool that you will certainly have in your cutlery drawer. We provide step-by-step instructions below:

The best way to untie a knot without much effort is to simply get yourself a spoon. Insert the handle of the spoon inside the knot to try to loosen it, thus separating the rings a little at a time and pushing on the handle of the spoon until the body of the knot is loose enough to use your fingers. If the knot is too tight to undo with a spoon, try a thinner tool, such as a skewer or a toothpick.

If you are looking for a more effective technique to untie a particularly stubborn knot, you can use two pliers, which will help you to apply greater force to the tangled threads. Grab the two parts of the knot using the pliers and apply great force to it, until it loosens up on its own.

And what if the knot is not made of fabric or rope but is, for example, a knot in a necklace? There is also a very effective remedy for this. Moisten your hands, especially your fingers, with vegetable oil and work the knot until it is completely gone. If you cannot use oil, you can use talcum powder. Alternatively, proceed as indicated for the other knots, but using sewing needles, which will help you loosen the knot just enough to untie it with your hands.
