Ruined sweaters and pulls? Maybe you are hanging them up the wrong way!

The time of reorganizing the wardrobe is always a mixture of chaos, frustration and happiness. Selecting the clothes to be stored away, folding them and packing them neatly is a tedious job. Not surprisingly, we often take care of this task when we feel depressed or feel a strong urge for a change. However, we often have to throw out sweaters and pulls that we love, simply because long storage times have irreparably ruined them.

Why does this happen and how can we avoid such an occurrence? It all depends on how we put them away: let's find out together how to do this better and save our sweaters from the trash.

TikTokker, Carolina Mccauley, teaches us how to avoid ruining sweaters and pulls when we hang them on hangers to store them away in a closet. We usually hang up sweaters simply by inserting the hanger into the neck area; in this way the weight of the sweater will tend to pull the garment down and the ends of the hanger will leave creases in the garment that will make it unsightly and even unwearable. There is a way to avoid this problem without giving up on hanging up our sweaters.

First, we need to lay our sweater on a flat surface and fold it in half, vertically. Then, we rest the hanger with the hook facing downwards at the height of the armpit of the sweater. At this point, we first fold the sleeves horizontally over the hanger, then the lower part towards the top.

Our sweater is now ready to be stored in the closet; when we take it out to wear it later, we won't have those unpleasant, deformed creases. Watch the video to follow Carolina's step-by-step instructions.

Remember then that the choice of the hanger is also important: metal hangers are not recommended, as they are very thin and deform clothes more easily. For jackets and shirts, you need to use a wide shoulder hanger.  For sweaters and "slippery" clothes, you need to use a velvet or non-slip hanger. For trousers, you need to use a hanger with a horizontal bar and for skirts the one with clips. Finally, don't forget that some items are best stored folded in drawers or on closet shelves. Underwear, swimwear and sports clothing, for example, should be stored in special drawers or containers. Jeans and sweaters can be hung up, but can also be placed folded on a shelf.

You just need to roll up your sleeves and get going ... good luck tidying up!
