Garden lights: 11 ideas to add a touch of magic to your outdoors

It is nice to spend a relaxing day in the garden, but it is even more magical to be able to enjoy being outside even in the evening or, during the hottest periods of the year, until late at night. But to be able to stay in complete comfort outdoors, it is necessary to have some lighting available in order to avoid any accidents from happening.

To this end, adequate lighting needs to be provided - not just for those areas equipped with tables or outdoor lounges - but also for those areas with pathways and steps (which can be dangerous at night if not illuminated properly). So, what about using lights that can also enhance the beauty of one's garden as well as providing a safety function? Lighting is very essential, and there are many solutions to consider to create a magical effect. Check out some of these below:

If during the day an umbrella protects you from the strongest rays of the sun, in the evening it can remain open to become the support for a string of light bulbs: an economical and eye-catching solution for where there are no fixed lighting systems installed.

In a similar way, you can take advantage of any support there is in the garden, especially trellises that are used to support the growth of climbing plants.

To illuminate a driveway or pathway for a special occasion, and without having to install permanent lampposts, you can consider using simple buckets into which sticks have been inserted (held firm and upright by sand, for example). You can then place these along the pathway at intervals, and then drape strings of lights between the sticks (which act as supports)!

Alternatively, the idea of filling lots of glass containers (bottles, jars, old laterns) with strings of lights (battery-operated), is a great idea.

Electrical cords with light bulbs hanging from them, draped on tree branches and on walls are very popular, but what if the lights were all vintage-style lamps?

As for permanent solutions, spotlights that project light are certainly very elegant and scenographic, and give of their best when they added to the middle of the a flower beds or when they are focused on the architecture of the house.

Spotlights installed in the steps or along handrails are also very refined, discreet courtesy lights.

On the sides of pathways, as well as in the middle of flower beds, you could consider using low street lamps powered by solar energy.

Or, as in this example, prepare mini street lamps in a vintage style, into which you can insert candles (even electric ones), or battery-powered LED lights.

And if you are looking for places to thread a string of light, don't forget the fences or other garden partitions!

How would you like to light up your garden?
