Have you ever thought that rusted objects can become decorations for the garden?

A metal object damaged by rust is something to usually throw away, to get rid of as it is no longer usable. But in the hands of a creative mind, it can become a fascinating piece of furniture. The reddish patina that covers the metal and covers the original defined lines of the object, gives it a worn look that is surprisingly useful for decorating the garden - just as it is sometimes used in shabby-chic or rustically styled furniture at home.

Using these rusted objects, you can create sculptures of recycled objects, decorations for fences and even choose rusty metal as a material for art installations or to highlight parts of the garden's landscape. Check out the ideas below:

Old metal gears and pieces of machinery or metal object that have rusted over time: they cannot be used anymore in the function they were created for... but they could be thought of as decorative pieces. For example, you could make sculptures out of them by stacking them in an aesthetically pleasing way.

And the same goes for bicycle sprockets or similar types of gears: they could become the decoration for a fence or as a support on which to grow creepers or vines.

Is there a tap that no one uses sticking out of the ground, one of those old and somewhat unsightly ones? With a tear-shaped piece of glass and an old metal bucket, it becomes an art work - and without the risk of someone tripping over it.

If you have a bunch of large iron nails that have rusted, (or you have got them after taking something apart), you can create metal dandelions to decorate your flower beds.

With sections cut from metal pipes you could create unique borders.

Creating fences is the perfect use for flat items, even broken ones!

And if you use creeper supports that will rust over time, it doesn't mean that they will become ugly to look at!

If you explore the web, you will find fantastic sculptures made by many artisans who decorate their gardens with unique creations.

You can replicate the shape of plants, the silhouettes of animals or create unique, abstract geometrical shapes and sculptures.

...such as wonderful circles, for modern Star Gates!

Often these installations are made with so-called Corten steel, the steel that is also used for load-bearing structures and fences in the garden. It is a super fascinating material, and is also called "the metal that lives", because during the oxidation process, it becomes covered with a porous outer patina and an inner layer which is rich in copper, chromium and phosphorus (which is waterproof).
