It is often thought that the only way to make a garden truly comfortable is to invest in sunbeds, deckchairs, armchairs, swings and similar furniture: certainly these are always very beautiful and comfortable solutions, but there are also other alternatives that are worth considering.

Such as, for example, wooden paved areas, raised above the ground: they are platforms (decks) of various shapes that incorporate the trunk of one or more trees, in order to create a space which can even be equipped using only cushions - but also with outdoor furniture, if you wish - allowing one to relax in the shade of your favorite tree. Check out the ideas below:

Whatever shape the platform is to be, the method to build it is more or less always the same: with beams and supporting bricks to create the grid that will support the walkable covering made from wooden planks.

In most cases, the cladding boards forming the walking surface are arranged side by side and all in the same direction - but nothing prevents you from creating some different type of design.

They are projects designed to last, but if they are too expensive or too much time is needed to make them, you can always create a platform by joining together several ready-made platforms! That is, by using pallets: in this way we also estimate what woudl be involved in creating / builing a more permanent deck.

If trees are growing on a slope, creating a wooden platform that encompasses them (which obviously it will be cantilevered), will make it possible to use part of the garden, that previously was perhaps not easily accessible.

It is easier to build platforms that have a square or rectangular shapes, but those with a circular form are also beautiful.

And a round deck could also be placed in the middle of several trees which are arranged in (more or less) a circle, perhaps even with a corner converted into a bench.

If you have the space available, it is very nice to think of creating a deck with a curved, irregular shape - a bit like an island in the middle of the lawn.

An octagonal platform that runs around the trunk of a tree: and in the center, (with the same shape but smaller), a table complete with chairs. The tree trunk will be a centerpiece, par excellence!

When a tree that shades the platform has still to grow, its' trunk will widen, so you might want to think about building the platform so that only one side of it is touching the trunk.

In Japanese-inspired gardens, the platforms create raised paved areas that provide a path between flower beds and not just between trees.

By contacting professionals you can also install some truly innovative and extraordinary designs.

Would you like to have a platform / deck under the trees in your garden?
