Flat vs rotating mops: these two household tools compared in an informative TikTok video

When it comes to cleaning the house, even the tools we use are essential for achieving success. For each type of surface, there are several tools to choose from, and when it comes to opting for traditional ones or more modern accessories, there are two schools of thought.

Even with regard to the types of mops to use, for example, the choice can fall to various different types available. In particular, when selecting between a flat mop or a rotating one, several factors can play a role. A flat mop is a rectangular one covered by a cloth that must be detached and washed separately before being reused; a rotating mop, on the other hand, is a more modern tool, which is almost circular in shape and designed to be wrung out in a special bucket that does this job for us.

The rotating mop, also known as a "spin mop" or "string mop", is almost circular in shape, with sponge bristles or other materials surrounding the central mop handle, and which can be detached in order to be thoroughly washed or replaced. It is a more modern model that is very popular because, in fact, it lightens the work and makes it a little more tolerable: its peculiarity, in fact, lies in the way it is wrung out, i.e. inside a specially made bucket that is operated with a pedal and that does the squeezing work for us, and without one having to squeeze and twist (wring out) the mop inside the bucket.

It has smaller dimensions than the flat mop, but its shape allows it to slip more easily into difficult areas. Excellent for cleaning steps and window rails, it becomes a little less useful when you have to wash large floor surfaces which are free from clutter and other obstacles.

The flat mop is the traditional type: you need to work harder to take off the cloth (of various fabrics) with which it is covered, and which is later hand washed in a normal bucket (so this mop is also cheaper than the more modern model). Using a flat mop, you save time and energy when washing large and regularly shaped surfaces, as this mop is larger and therefore, fewer passes are needed to cover the space.

It can also be used in narrow and long areas of the floor, so in the end, it also remains quite versatile and useful as a tool.
