Limescale and dirt residue can create annoying, unsightly yellow staining in toilets. And these stains not only mar the appearance of a bathroom, but are unhygienic too.

Removing these yellow stains can be challenging, but it can be a much easier chore if you know the right techniques.

Below, we describe some effective, all-natural ways to remove yellow stains from your toilet.

Lemon juice is the perfect, all-natural resource you can use to to remove limescale and whiten the surfaces of your toilet.

All you need to do is wipe down the surfaces of the toilet with lemon juice: the juice's acidity will quickly dissolve and remove yellow limescale. Leave the juice on the surfaces for a few minutes before scrubbing off and rinsing.

If the stains are particularly stubborn, you can also add two cups of baking soda to the lemon juice: with its whitening properties, the baking soda will increase the stain-removing power of the lemon juice.

If you also want to sanitize and perfume your toilet, you can add a few drops of tea tree, lavender or eucalyptus essential oil to the lemon juice to release a pleasant scent.

Lemon juice is not the only all-natural remedy you can use to remove yellow stains from the toilet:

  • Citric acid - a weaker acid derived from lemon juice - is another effective limescale removing remedy and you can use it by itself. Sprinkle the toilet bowl with a cup of citric acid (or with a mixture composed of 100 grams of baking soda and 75 grams of citric acid), leaving this to act for 30 minutes before rinsing off with plenty of water;
  • White vinegar also contains a weak acid that is very effective for removing limescale; in this case, the vinegar can be poured directly onto the toilet bowl after sprinkling it first with baking soda; leave this to act for at least 10 minutes (or up to 20 minutes for stubborn stains), then scrub off with a scrubbing brush.
  • Finally, Coca Cola (Coke) is an incredibly effective remedy for cleaning a toilet; in addition to removing blockages, Coke can also remove yellow stains from the toilet: just pour Coke into the toilet bowl and leave it to act for a few hours before scrubbing down. Your toilet will look as good as new afterwards.

Thanks to these remedies, you can easily keep your toilet in tip-top shape!
