Make your climbing plants a feature in your home by using expandable hangers

Expandable and foldable wooden hangers - the so-called "accordion" hangers - can be extended to cover a space, offering hooks for hanging up clothes, coats, bags and other accessories thanks to the knobs positioned on the vertices of the slats. These hangers are very popular and can be found in many homes.

That said, some find these types of hangers a bit antiquated and would prefer to replace them with something a bit more modern-looking. But before you throw yours away, take a breath and pause.

One use you could make of an expandable hanger is to display your climber/creeper plants in your home (or even outside).

This is a simple but ingenious idea and is demonstrated by Chantel Gray on Instagram. In fact, in a short video, the woman shows how a simple expandable hanger can be used as a support framework for pothos, ivy, a philodendron or any other climbing plant you have at home.

These climbing plants will hook themselves onto the hanger and soon cover it: it's the ideal way to furnish your home if you like greenery!

The procedure is really easy:

  • Choose where to place the pot with your climbing pot - obviously not a position which will be too far away from the planned position for the hanger;
  • Take your hanger and extend it as much as possible, then mount it on the wall, just above the pot. Remember that the plant will grow and will eventually cover the hanger;
  • Using a drill, secure the hanger to the wall;
  • Gently untangle the tendrils of the plant if this needs to be done to ease the task;
  • Wrap the tendrils around the knobs on the hanger, possibly with the help of soft twine, if needed.

As you can see, the wall in Chantel Gray's house, is made immediately more beautiful using this decoration. Check out the video below to see how this is done in detail:
