Give a touch of color to the bedroom: 12 useful tips to liven up the decor

Our homes reflect us in many ways: there are, of course, photos and other objects placed on display, and then there are our design choices, style and colors (paints) used in the home. This is true in any room, including the bedroom. And in the bedroom, usually, one tends to avoid going "over the top" and cluttering it with knick-knacks and bulky furnishings. In fact, our bedrooms should be like a relaxing oasis.

So, in the vast majority of cases, walls and furniture in the bedroom have neutral colors (white above all) and simple lines. But what if you want to personalize the environment a bit more, or liven it up with a little color? Below, you will find some ideas you can consider:

Sheets, blankets and pillows

If you don't want to, or you can't, repaint the walls, ceiling or floor, then focus on the linen: indulge yourself with sheets and pillows that are a riot of color on the bed in the center of the room.

This is an approach that colors bedrooms with tones that compliment the walls and furniture.

What colors? Some combinations to choose

If the room is a blank canvas or has light neutral colors, you will most likely find a shade of blue that suits the room: blue is a "wild card" color par excellence, and often, can look elegant and relaxing.

If, on the other hand, you want to use a pair of complimentary colors, then choose a combination of green and blue: these are the most relaxing colors par excellence, and create a comfortable environment in which to take refuge from the outside world.

For a bolder choice, consider bolder complementary color pairs: yellow and purple, blue and orange, and so on. You can decide how "loud" you want the colors to be. From a light creamy yellow combined with a delicate lavender, to a mustard with a deep purple… the options are endless.

If you don't want to limit yourself to one or two colors, use the internet to find a palette, i.e. the range, the combination of colors you like. They can be the colors of the earth, the sea, help to evoke moods or natural scenarios. Again, the choice is endless.

In choosing the color palette, you can be inspired by almost anything - even by a painting or some work of art can be your inspiration for color choice.

And if you have a favorite color, then you could play around with various shades of it!

Metallic ornaments

When the color scheme isn't too "loud", there's room for metallic ornaments. These are usually lamps, mirrors and other fittings.

Accent walls

A wall, or just a portion of it, can be the only one which is painted (or is painted in a tone that contrasts with the other walls).

Textured walls

Not just paint or wallpaper: the material from which the wall is made - or clad - also contributes to giving the bedroom character. So, you might have one wall in brick, or stone, or wood. And these could be left in their natural colors.

Upholstery

Finally, the colorful items in the room could be an armchair with flashy upholstery, or maybe the curtains on the windows!
