Rugs, mats and carpets are a great comfort in the home, as well as to decorate different rooms. However, they have a negative side that we all deal with: the fact that they get dirty easily and are not easy to clean. In particular, they can start smelling bad.

So, sometimes, it is not enough just to vacuum frequently. Sometimes, we have to use some deodorant that neutralizes bad odors and spreads a pleasant aroma in the home. Luckily, this is something we can prepare at home with minimal expense and very quickly.

What will you need?

  • 230 grams of baking soda
  • 230 grams of borax
  • Essential oil mix: 3 drops each of Lemongrass, Lavender, Teatree and Rosemary.

Get yourself a glass container, preferably with an opening wide enough to easily insert a fork. The container must be big enough to hold all the above ingredients.

Pour all the ingredients into the container and mix well with a fork (or even use a small kitchen whisks that are used for eggs), in order to break up the lumps that form when you add the essential oils.

How to use: with the help of a fine-mesh strainer, sprinkle a couple of spoonfuls of this perfumed powder over the carpet . Obviously you will need more for larger carpets. Leave this to act for at least half an hour (but you can also leave it for several hours) and then vacuum everything up with a vacuum cleaner.

Your home will now have a completely different scent!
