In our homes, one of the biggest problems we face is that of humidity. Humidity can cause structural damage to the building and also ruin furniture and affect the health of the inhabitants. In fact, humidity often goes hand in hand with the proliferation of mold, which is not only unsightly, but can also harmful to household goods, pets and humans.

But is it possible to combat the build-up of humidity? The answer is yes and this is possible thanks to a versatile household product: hydrogen peroxide at 10 volumes. Let's find out how how to do this together:

Mold can form on fabrics, especially if they are washed in a washing machine that is not properly maintained. In other cases, it can be due to clothes being stored for a long time in wardrobes and drawers that are never opened and aired out. What can we do in these cases? Before proceeding with a regular machine wash, it is advisable to remove any mold stains by covering them with hydrogen peroxide (if they are white garments), or with white vinegar if they are colored garments and rubbing the stains away with a microfibre cloth.

To clean mold from the washing machine, do an empty wash at high temperature and with a cup of hydrogen peroxide put directly into the drum.

When furniture develops a mold problem, it is essential to act quickly to prevent damage to the fabric. For this purpose, it is necessary to air the furniture out regularly for at least twenty minutes once a month and wipe it down a mix of hydrogen peroxide and bicarbonate. If the humidity is high and you want to minimize risk, you can leave a bowl of sodium bicarbonate inside your closets: this will absorb excess humidity.

Mold on walls is the most common problem caused by humidity. If the spots of mold are not extensive, you can remove them using home remedies. For spots on the wall, you can use a microfiber cloth moistened with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. Rub it on the stain and let it dry, then rinse off thoroughly.

In the corners (usually where the mold is more evident), you can mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form a sort of paste. Apply with a soft bristle toothbrush, scrub and rinse off.

The bathroom is the area in the house where mold develops most easily. To eliminate mold from this room, you can make a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, citric acid, baking soda and water to spray directly on any mold spots. Leave this to act for at least 15 minutes before scrubbing off with an abrasive sponge.

Grab your sponge, toothbrush and microfiber cloths and start scrubbing!
