Do you want to erase furniture indents in a carpet's pile? Use ice

Every carpet on the floor ends up showing signs of the foot traffic which passes over it and/or indents from heavy furniture that rests on it.

In reality, we only notice these indents when we move the furniture: lifting a leg of a table, for example, will reveal where the carpet fibres have been flattened. Simply brushing the pile usually isn't enough to restore the carpet. But you can use a popular tips to make your carpet look like new again and eliminate the indents. And all you need is some ice and a spoon.

Among the many people who have tried this method, is TikTokker, @cleaningwithcharlotte. In a video, this TikTokker shows us how to remove indent impressions from her carpet.

As mentioned, you really only need a few ice cubes and a normal spoon (some use plastic scrapers, round-bladed knives or brushes for sofas or upholstery).

How to proceed?

  • Get enough ice cubes to cover all the ares where the carpet's pile has been crushed flat by the furniture;
  • Let the ice melt, without touching it;
  • When the ice has melted, use a bit of paper towel to dab up any excess water, but without rubbing;
  • Take the spoon and scratch the carpet in order to raise the pile of the carpet. In some videos, it looks like some people do this quite forcefully, but try being gentle at first. You can even do this using your fingernails;
  • Let the treated areas dry without further intervention.

At the end of this procedure, the indent marks should be gone. See the results in the tutorial video. However, it can be a while before the ice melts, so be patient. Wetting the carpet is not a practice you should do very often, but it is also true that it is not frequently necessary to erase furniture indent marks from a carpet.

Have you ever tried this method?
