Can't get hair out of the drain? Try this easy and super-cheap tip

This is probably the most unpleasant task we have to do at home - bordering on disgusting. And if we really have to do it, we should do it in the fastest and most painless way possible. We are talking about unblocking the drains in the sinks, the bath and the shower.

However often you do it, the damp mass of hair covered in soap residue is always nauseating. On top of this, not everyone has the right drain probes, and there are narrow drains that they might not even fit into. And if you don't want to have to make wire hooks from hangers, you can use another easy and effective method. Read on to find out what this is:

We can see an example of the method in a post on TikTok by @cleaningwithgabie. All you have to arm yourself with is:

  • A hard plastic zip tie - the kind used to tie up electrical cables.
  • Some scissors.

And that's all. The zip tie should be as flat and as wide as possible. They are easily found and also cost very little. But if you are in a hurry and you don't have any at home, as an alternative, plastic strapping can be used. Cut a piece that is at least 30 to 40 cm long. Make sure it is straight.

The procedure:

  • Take your cable tie or strap, and make cuts on one side, oblique, and that only reach half the width. This creates a little "herringbone", with indentations that will not break tie/strap.
  • Insert the herriboned plastic segment into the drain, move around a little and pull up: it will bring out any hair with it.

You can see here how easy it is. Furthermore, since it is plastic, you can also keep the improvised (cleaned) drain cleaner always ready for use.

Have you ever tried this method?
