toaster is a small appliance that that can be found in most kitchens: excellent for toasting slices of fresh bread, or refreshing stale slices, it comes in handy in a lot of situations. There are also those who use toasters to heat or cook tortillas and tacos, and many other food items.

However, one thing is certain: although we take care, it is inevitable that crumbs end up making the toaster get dirty. It is a hard task to try to remove these crumbs (and other debris), but there is a quick and easy tip that can help a lot, and you just need to use a tool that you almost certainly have at home.

TikTokker, @jessicahaizman, has posted a video that explains how she takes care of cleaning her toaster every week.

All you need is:

  • A microfiber cloth
  • A hairdryer
  • White vinegar (wine, apple, alcohol or rice)

How do you proceed? It's really simple: you just need to unplug the toaster, and remember to only clean it when it is perfectly cool. Then, follow these steps below.

  • Take the microfiber cloth and put it inside the grids that usually house the bread to be toasted. Make sure to insert the cloth properly, pressing gently on the grids and on the bottom. This step is to remove and dislodge any residue left on the grids themselves, so that all the dirt falls to the bottom. Repeat this for each of the toaster opening.
  • Then take out the crumb trays that are usually at the bottom. Do this gently so that the crumbs remain on the trays. Then clean them as you normally would, with the important thing being that they are immediately dried very well. At this stage, you can also remove the bread racks and wash them carefully as well (if they are removable).
  • So, what can be done to get every last crumb out? There is no need to shake the toaster or slam it on the countertop. To make this task easier, use a hairdryer: turn it to maximum power, put it on the openings at the top and make sure that the jet of air dislodges as many crumbs as possible.
  • Now you just have to clean up everything that the hairdryer has dislodged, and clean the outside of the appliance (with the help of vinegar). However, if the toaster is enamelled and not made of metal, then use a mild degreaser.

Watch the video to see how easy this is. After cleaning the toaster like this, it will be as good as new!
