Even the cleanest person in the world will, from time to time, have to deal with bad smells that emanate from the garbage cans scattered around the house. In fact, in each room - but especially in the kitchen and in the bathroom - the accumulation of garbage in these containers can cause very unpleasant odors.

Therefore, from time to time, we need to thoroughly clean the garbage cans themselves. Everyone has their favorite method, but to degrease and deodorize properly, we bring you one method show on TikTok, by TikTokker, Carolina McCauley.

The garbage an the video is made of stainless steel but, apart from the last step of the procedure, this method can also be applied to plastic cans.

What you will need is:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Sodium bicarbonate
  • Baby oil (for metal containers)
  • A long-handled brush
  • A microfiber cloth
  • A hose pipe

The cleaning steps are simple:

  • Put on the rubber gloves and remove any garbage debris left at the bottom of the can.
  • Now, take the packet of baking soda and sprinkle it generously inside the can.
  • Once done, pour in some dishwashing liquid as well. You will need to pour a little on the walls and a little on the bottom of the container.
  • Arm yourself with the long-handled brush and begin to vigorously scrub the entire interior of the can. With the bristles full of soap and baking soda, move on to working in the same way on the outside.
  • When you have cleaned everything, removing any residual dirt, it is time to rinse out thoroughly with the water hose, preferably under pressure (closing the top of the hose with your finger, partially, to do this).
  • Dry the can as best you can with a cloth - especially if it is a metal container, otherwise streaks will develop.
  • Where the garbage can is steel, you can ensure a perfect finish by polishing the exterior with a few drops of baby oil, put on a dry microfiber cloth and then rubbed over the surface.

This is really simple, and it's worth remembering to clean the garbage cans once every two weeks at least. How do you usually deal with this?
