Blackened seals and joints in the bathroom? Thoroughly clean the shower with these tips
There are areas of the house that are particularly difficult to clean. One of these is the shower and, in particular, the seals that close the joints. The bathroom, by its very nature, is a humid environment and therefore conducive to the proliferation of mold and bacteria.
This means that, especially in bathrooms, dirt and mold accumulates and blackens. When this blackening is not removed immediately, it becomes really difficult to eliminate.
It is, of course, necessary to know the right solutions for this problem. Some of these are described below:
It must be borne in mind that, to prevent the situation from becoming irreversible, it is advisable to clean the shower often with a good anti-limescale product and keep it as dry as possible. However, even if mold is present, something can be done. Proceed as follows:
- Bleach: Bleach is a win-win in many cases, including here. Use it with caution, leave it on for a while, taking care not to use other detergents that when combined with it could be toxic; scrub carefully and rinse off thoroughly.
- Bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide: if you do not want to use bleach, an alternative can be to use an abrasive compound made with bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide at 40 volumes (the one that the hairdresser uses to lighten your hair). Mix the two ingredients to create a cream. Use the cream to scrub the parts to be whitened with an old toothbrush; leave it on for about half an hour and rinse off thoroughly.
- Lemon or white vinegar: both lemon and vinegar are substances with abrasive and degreasing properties. Try making a solution with water, lemon juice or white vinegar and a tablespoon of baking soda. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the parts to be cleaned. Leave it on for a while; scrub vigorously with a toothbrush and rinse off.
- Laundry detergent: laundry detergent seems to have cleaning and whitening property as well. Try mixing it with a little water and vigorously scrub the areas to be whitened. Leave to act for a few minutes and then rinse off.
- Steam cleaner: another more ecological and effective alternative involves the use of steam cleaners. There are various types on the market and they can easily sanitize and whiten your shower. It is certainly an easier and faster solution than the others described above.
Have you ever tried one of these cleaning methods before?
