When you wear a garment that has just been taken from the wardrobe, you prefer if it is scented like it has just been washed. Unfortunately, this is often not the case: for various reasons, our clothes can have a stale smell that is definitely not very pleasant.

There are numerous remedies that we can use to avoid this annoying inconvenience. From relying on using products with an enduring scent during the wash, to resorting to using deodorants for wardrobes and drawers, we can choose from among a number of solutions. Among other remedies, there is one that can be used at the time of ironing. In fact, we can make a DIY scented water to spray on clothes before ironing them. Let's find out how to make and use this:

Few ingredients are needed to make this scented water and are available at most supermarkets:

  • 100 ml of distilled water
  • 30 drops of an essential oil of your choice
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda (optional)

Being oily in consistency, essential oils do not dissolve in water. You can therefore choose whether to create an emulsion to shake up before each use, or to use dissolving catalyst - in this case bicarbonate. The result will still be the same!

With regard to the choice of essential oil, however, you can use one you like. Some oils which are highly recommended are lavender (for a relaxing effect), mint (for a refreshing action) and lemon (for an energizing effect).

Preparing scented water is very simple: if you only use essential oils, just add it to the water in a bottle with a sprayer. Shake the mixture well and leave it to rest for 4 days before use, remembering to shake it well every time you use it to prevent the essential oils from separating from the water.

If, on the other hand, you choose to add baking soda, dampen it with drops of essential oil, mix well and then add the paste to the water. Again, shake well so that the baking soda dissolves completely in the water. Your spray is now ready to use!

How to use this spray is as simple as the preparation: just spray the solution on the fabric to be ironed, keeping the bottle at a distance of about 10cm, and being careful not to wet the garment too much. Then, proceed immediately to iron the garment. Pay attention to delicate fabrics, and before spraying them with the solution, always do a test on a small, hidden part. Your clothes will remain fragrant for a long time!
