Microwave oven: Clean it thoroughly with these natural products

The microwave oven has long been one of the most popular household appliances. It is convenient, simple to use and allows you to heat, defrost and cook food in no time. This makes it one of the favorite tools of today's society - a society which is perpetually in a hurry.

When it gets dirty, however, cleaning it seems challenging. Food residue, crumbs, grease that sticks to the walls and splashes of sauce on the glass, do not make cleaning the appliance a pleasant operation.

However, a few products (mostly natural) and a few tips can get the job done in half the time - and produce exceptional results.

Here are the steps to follow, briefly summarized, for a cleansing method using natural products:

  • Choose an ingredient to use from lemon, white vinegar, or baking soda.
  • Fill half of a microwave-safe bowl with water. Depending on the product chosen, squeeze half a lemon into the water, add a glass of vinegar or two tablespoons of baking soda.
  • Place the bowl inside the oven, close and start a cooking cycle of about five minutes at high power.
  • When done, wait another five minutes before opening. The water will evaporate, dissolving/loosening the dirt on the inside.
  • At this point, remove the turntable and place it in the sink.
  • Scrub the inside of the oven with a sponge and more vinegar, lemon juice or baking soda. Do the same with the turntable. If the dirt is stubborn, use a few drops of dish soap or a little Marseille soap.
  • Rinse everything thoroughly, dry off with a microfiber cloth and replace the turntable.
  • To polish the glass on the outside, you can use a spray glass cleaner. There are those who also use it for the interior but this is not recommended. In any case, when using chemicals, it is best to rinse the cleaned items off thoroughly and never use them at the same time as other products, especially if they contain ammonia.

With these few tips, cleaning your microwave will be child's play. Great work!
