No more stiff, rough towels after washing them - treasure these helpful tips

It often happens that towels hung up to dry, especially in the hottest seasons, tend to dry out and harden, losing their softness. A rough towel is very uncomfortable to use after we step out of the shower. And this problem is even worse if you have guests and want to make a good impression.

There are, however, a series of very effective tips which can preserve the softness of this essential piece of household linen.

To keep towels feeling soft, it is best to start taking precautions starting from washing stage:

  • First of all, avoid overloading the washing machine.
  • Adjust the temperature and spin speed. Make sure that the towels are not too spun too vigourously and that they are not washed at above 60 degrees if they are white and above 40 degrees if they are colored. High temperatures can damage the fibers.
  • Measure the detergent dosage properly, avoiding any excess, because this too is a hardening factor for the fibers.
  • Use natural softeners. Here, we refer to baking soda, citric acid, or distilled white vinegar. You can add 150 grams of baking soda to the detergent dispenser, mix 150 grams of citric acid with water and substitute a fabric softener or add vinegar to the drum.
  • In all three cases, greater softness is ensured. And in all three instances, you can add a few drops of an essential oil to perfume the towels.
  • Once washed, it is best to spread the towels out in the open air, but avoid direct sunlight - which will over-dry them, and do not let them dry for time than they need.

The precautions listed above should be enough to guarantee a good degree of softness but, if these do not fully satisfy you, there are two other tips to add to the list. Let's talk about the brush tip and that of using balls (which may seem a little unusual at first).

As for the former tip, this is simply a matter of "combing" - gently - the towels (once dry), with a medium-hard brush with rounded tip bristles. Regular hair brushes (new and perfectly clean), are also fine. The operation must be repeated, with patience, on both sides. And while it sounds a bit extreme and bizarre, it seems to work very well.
Regarding balls tip, you can add tennis balls into the washing machine or wool balls into the dryer. This method also works with other garments.

Try these tips and enjoy your soft, fluffy towels.
