Furnishing elements exposed outside inevitably undergo deterioration: sun, rain, wind, snow, hail, whatever the climatic condition, our fixtures and fitting cannot take shelter. And if the sun tends to fade fabrics and dry out paint, bad weather can bring a rust problem to the iron fixtures.

Often, relying on a professional for repairs can be very expensive. Furthermore, if you act immediately, it is also very easy to restore your items back to perfect condition. All it takes is a little effort, willpower and the help of these four, foolproof tips. Soon, your iron fittings will be as good as new!

1. Aluminum foil

This method is as simple as it is effective: cut strips of aluminum foil and make balls of about 3 cm in diameter. Soak them in water for 1 minute, then use them to scrub the rusty spots. You will see the rust disappear like magic! Just dry off with a cloth and your item will be as good as new!

2. Lemons

This method is widely used with knives: thanks to the acidity of a lemon, rust stains can be easily removed non-toxically; to clean small objects (such as knives, in fact) you can use a lemon cut in half. For larger surfaces, proceed as follows: pour the juice of one lemon into a container and add half a tablespoon of salt. Mix well, then apply the mixture to the surface to be treated, leaving it to act for 1 or 2 hours, depending on the degree of rusting. Remove the rust with a toothbrush or a rough sponge. And that's it!

3. Cola

This method is also very good for cleaning small objects - just dip them in the cola. For larger items, apply the cola on the surface to be treated with a brush, let it act for 2 to 5 minutes, then remove the rust with wet sandpaper. Dry off and your item will be ready for use again.

4. Baking soda

The last tip involves the use of baking soda. Also very useful for kitchen utensils due to its non-toxicity, baking soda is one of the most versatile elements in the home. To remove rust proceed as follows: pour 3 or 4 teaspoons of baking soda in a container, add 1/4 liter of water and using a brush, apply the paste on the surface to be treated. Leave to act for 5 minutes, then scrub pff with a clean toothbrush.

Your iron items are finally safe from rust! Which method will you try?
