Spotless and fragrant laundry: this is one of the small daily pleasures that we can give ourselves. Wearing clothes or covering yourself with sheets and blankets that smell good and feel, is a real pleasure, especially if the scent they give off is one of our favorites.

Laundry detergents often have pleasant aromas, but occasionally they don't truly satisfy us. If you like the scent of coconut products, you could make a stain removing laundry detergent with a simple DIY recipe. It is basically an all-in-one product, which can be used safely in a washing machine.

What you need for your DIY detergent:

  • 1 liter of hot water
  • A 1.5 liter bottle
  • Half a stick of coconut soap
  • 250ml coconut laundry detergent
  • 1 bottle of 10-volume hydrogen peroxide (3%). There are those who recommend the use of multi-volume hydrogen peroxide in preparations like this, but there is a risk that it could be damaging.

How to proceed:

  • Break the bar of soap into small pieces.
  • Fill a saucepan with a liter of hot water and add the soap flakes.
  • Stir for a few minutes so that the flakes dissolve completely.
  • Add the detergent and mix vigorously to blend everything together properly.
  • Finally, add the hydrogen peroxide, stirring for 5 minutes.
  • Let the mixture rest for 5 hours

Ensure you keep the windows open or do the work in a well-ventilated environment, protecting your respiratory tract. When you leave the mixture to rest, keep it in an environment where you won't be spending too much time.

To use it in the case of heavily stained garments, pour two or three tablespoons into a medium basin where can soak the fabrics - even for an entire night.  Then just wring the garments out and do a regular machine wash. Otherwise, you can use the mixture as an alternative to regular detergent in the washing machine (and in the same manner).

This is a DIY detergent recommended for white garments, but you can also use it on colored ones. You can also try a stronger version by using two bottles of hydrogen peroxide instead of just one.
