3 cleaning products that you can also use in alternative ways around the home

Cleaning the house is a daily chore that makes use of a number of different detergents for the various rooms and types of surfaces. In fact, we can find products suitable for almost any type of material, and even with different fragrances that can satisfy anyone's preferences and needs. Sometimes, however, it is not possible to stock up some items, (for multiple reasons, including availability and/or cost).

It is therefore useful to realize that at home we may already have detergents and other products that are multipurpose, and that we can use to clean our homes. Read on to find out what these are (and how to use them):

Dishwasher tablets

For many, these tablets are the best solution for use in the dishwasher, but they are also useful in many other cleaning tasks.

  • Cleaning the toilet: if there are limescale stains on the porcelain, or rust spots that do not go away when using various soaps and degreasers, you can also try to solve this problem with these tablets. Wet them in water, and with just the tip of the tablet, rub the tablet on the stain. Otherwise, you can simply let the tablet dissolve in the toilet bowl and then use a toilet brush to scrub the bowl out thoroughly. There are also those who, from time to time, put a tablet in the toilet in the evening so that it dissolves during night and leaves a fresh, clean smell. And in this last case, you can also use a piece of a tablet, which will stretch your supplies for a lot longer.
  • Pots and pans: again by wetting the tip of a tablet a little so that it softens, you can "scrape" away the stubborn dirt on the bottom of the pots and pans in the kitchen! If there is any burnt food residue, you can heat some water in the pot, and then let the tablet dissolve in it. After it has been left to sit for a couple of hours, cleaning the pots will become very easy.

  • The oven: in a similar way to how we use these tablets to clean our pots, you can also make the glass of the oven look like new!
  • Hobs: use a little hot water to dissolve the tablet in and you will get an effective detergent liquid for washing hobs and stove tops.
  • Baking trays: these are surfaces on which a moistened tablet can be used like it was eraser to remove dirt and grime.

  • Stains on white, enamelled plates: put a little toothpaste containing sodium bicarbonate (preferably white toothpaste, without any colored gels) on the plate - very little is enough. Then, with an old toothbrush scrub the stain for a bit, rinse off and you will see the difference.
  • The foot of the iron: for light burn / scorch stains and even limescale deposits, spread a little toothpaste with a toothbrush (the iron must be cold) on the stains, let it act for a couple of minutes and then remove everything with a cloth. Finally, turn on the steam and let it escape for a bit - the stains will disappear.

The joints in floors and walls: this is perhaps the best known alternative use for toothpaste, and is really useful. It is easy, in fact, to apply the toothpaste to these small crevices and then scrub them clean using a toothbrush dedicated to this purpose.

Bleach

Not everyone likes to use bleach to clean their floors, so they may not always have it around for other purposes. One of these purposes could be to get rid of mold and dirty streaks in the bathtub or shower cubicle. It cannot be used neat and must always be diluted in a lot of water (approximately 100 ml for every 4 liters of water), and it is always best to ventilate the room and to wear gloves and a mask. Notwithstanding having to take these precautions, bleach is a very effective ani-mold remedy.
