A quick way of folding fitted sheets into a compact square

Fitted sheets are very useful, with their elasticated corners that fit perfectly to the underside of the mattress and thereby help the sheet stay taut for longer. They make it easier to make the bed and keep it more comfortable to sleep on, as the sheet doesn't slide easily over the mattress and crumble up under the body when we move around at night.

It's too bad then that, after being washed and dried, or ironed, they are very difficult to be folded neatly. In fact, when we are in a hurry, we often fold them into a shapeless mass that is difficult to store together with the other items of household linen in wardrobes or drawers. But there are several tips that help to make even the most irregular shapes of these sheets into a compact and neat square. Below, we show one effective folding method demonstrated by TikToker @effectivespaces.

  • First, position yourself on the bed and place the sheet on it, folded in half, without too much precision just yet.
  • Insert your hands into each of the elasticated corners of the top layer and tuck them into the corners of the ones directly beneath.
  • Join the folds that have been formed at the bottom, bringing them to the center, in front of you.

  • Begin folding the lower flap in front of your legs, making it go towards the center, a couple of times.
  • Do the same, in reverse, with the upper flap, until it rests on top of the part that you have already folded back on itself.
  • You will then have a long horizontal strip in front of you: fold both ends a bit towards the center.

  • Continue to fold one end on itself, until it slips between the layers of the other, a bit like you do when you put the pillow in a pillowcase.
  • Tuck in well and all of the underneath of the fitted sheets has become a compact and small square.

It seems more difficult to explain than to simply do, and in fact, this technique can be mastered very easily. You can see how quick and easy this method is in this TikTok video. What's your favorite method for folding fitted sheets?
