Commonly used objects, furniture, accessories, food and clothes: how can we make them last longer and avoiding throwing them away after only a short time (and avoiding all the consequences that this entails in terms of waste and cost)? Some simple tips can help us achieve this and extend the lives of these objects. From pans to umbrellas, from bread to bras, from razors to clothes, there are many things we can do.

For example, did you know that oil helps extend the life of non-stick pans and that bars of soap should be dried immediately after each use? Ditto for razors, which should always be stored in a dry place to avoid rust forming on them. As you can see, these are small, intuitive interventions which, however, really make a difference.

A little oil is enough to extend the life of non-stick pans: after having cleaned and dried them off well, pour a spoonful into the pan and, with the help of a piece of absorbent paper towel, rub the oil over the entire surface of the pan. You then just need to put the pan on the stove for about a minute and let it cool down before putting it back in the cupboard.

Before throwing away any markers that don't work very well, try placing them upside down in a jar or glass. If this method doesn't work, try soaking the tips in some alcohol.

Store razors in a dry place

If you too have a bad habit of leaving razors in the shower, you should know that water and humidity are bad for the steel of razor blades. If you want to make them last longer and prevent them from rusting, and after washing and drying them, always put them in a dry drawer, well away from humidity.

Always dry soap bars after use

If you often use bars of soap to wash yourself, remember to dry them after each use and place them in a soap dish instead of leaving them in the shower. This will significantly extend their lifespans.

Put bread into a bag

Do you want to make bread last longer, keeping it fresh and soft for several days? Instead of storing it in a bread basket, without protection, put the loaf in a paper or cotton bag.

We are used to closing an umbrella immediately after use, but by doing so we risk damaging it due to the water that remains on the upper surface. It is best to leave it open and let it dry off properly before closing and storing it again.

Fasten your bra before washing it

Not only by using gentle washes, to make bras last longer it is important to fasten them before putting them in the washing machine. In this way, the risk of damaging the straps is dramatically reduced.

If you have shirts / T-shirts with prints on them, turn them inside out before washing and ironing them. This will extend the life of the prints. We also recommend that you wash these items by hand instead of in the washing machine.
