Not just air conditioners, fans also need to be thoroughly cleaned before being used during the summer season. However, it is not enough to simply remove dust to ensure a clean air flow - it is, in fact, very important to clean the fans thoroughly. This is a simple operation, which you can perform in just a few minutes, using Marseille soap or homemade mixtures such as water and vinegar (which is an excellent degreaser that is often also recommended for cleaning the gas hob and the oven).

Before starting the cleaning operation, however, make sure you have what you need at hand: in addition to soap, water and vinegar, you will need a microfiber cloth, a bucket and a screwdriver to disassemble the fan.

First disconnect the fan from the electrical supply to avoid getting shocked and remove the main protective grill with the help of a screwdriver. In this way you will be able to get to all the important parts of the fan.

Once the grill is removed, wipe the blades off with a microfiber cloth to remove any surface dust. This operation requires some delicacy, but can also be performed without disassembling the blades (which could be a complex operation). If you want to try this anyway, ask someone experienced for help and, in any case, always consult the manufacturer's instructions.

After removing the bulk of the the dust, pour water into a bucket, add Marseille soap flakes, soak the cloth in it, wring it out and wipe the blades down thoroughly, removing any residual dust and dirt. Wipe the blades gently to avoid damaging them.

At this point you can move on to cleaning the protective grills (front and back), spraying them with a natural solution based on water and vinegar in equal quantities (50/50). Wipe them down with the cloth, removing any residue of dust and dirt, then rinse them off thoroughly (be careful not to get moisture into or on the electrical motor housing).

Finally, you just have to wait for the grids and blades to dry off perfectly. Do not reassemble them if they still seem a bit wet because it is not safe and you risk compromising the correct functioning of the fan.

This cleaning operation is essential to ensure clean air circulates through the fan and it eliminates the dust which has accumulated during the months of inactivity. So do not neglect this chore - it truly takes very little effort.
