What is the difference between a superficial and a thorough cleaning of a bathroom?

We all love to save time and money, including when it comes to cleaning the house. Nobody likes the idea of spending hours of their free time struggling to make the bathroom clean after working, or after all the other household chores are done. Nor is it pleasant to know that you have to allocate part of every weekend to do these tasks. It is also true that cleaning the house cannot be put off for too long, on pain of poor hygiene developing in the areas in which we live every day.

And so it happens that, whether we have to take care of the cleaning ourselves or if we entrust the task to someone we hire to do the housework, we want to make sure the cleaning is done thoroughly and quickly. However, we don't always realize how different a thorough cleaning is compared to a quick and superficial one.

An American housekeeper who became very famous on TikTok by documenting her work experience, showed in a very short video, the difference between the two cleaning methods.

The woman is called Vanessa Amaro, and she has been working as a domestic cleaner for years. In the clip, she shows the technique she uses when she cleans a bathroom sink quickly: she cleans the ceramic with a sponge and soap and then wipes a the surfaces twice with a soft cloth, once to rinse and once to polish.

However, when her customers require a thorough cleaning of the same sink, there are many more steps she undertakes:

  • She uses a soft sponge with soap on it to wash away the bulk of the dirt from the sink.
  • Then she uses a long-handled brush with a large head to remove the more stubborn dirt, also taking care of the inside edges of the sink.
  • She then moves on to using another hard bristled brush but one which is smaller, " for precision". With this, she takes care to apply the cleaning product to the base of the tap and in the smallest gaps where the first brush would be ineffective.
  • She then takes care of the drain: she pours some soap in there too and scrubs the area with an old toothbrush. And the plug is also treated in the same way.
  • Then she rinses everything with a product containing bleach and wipes all the surfaces off with a soft cloth.
  • Finally, she uses a metal polish to make the chrome fittings (like the taps) shine brilliantly.

The young woman is keen to emphasize that "time is money": cleaning a sink in such a thorough way shows how long it takes to thoroughly clean a bathroom sink, let alone the other rooms in the house. Naturally, to achieve a truly immaculate home, you have to work hard and spend more money, don't you agree?
