Swinging sofas and beds: ten amazing ideas for your garden

Any kid has a lot of fun on swings - it's nice to feel almost weightless and swing in mid-air. Over time, perhaps the taste for the abrupt movements "in flight" fades, but the pleasure of being suspended and rocking softly never passes. Therefore, among the most popular outdoor furniture one finds, there are always swings.

But instead of the classic ones made from iron, wood or plastic, why not furnish your green areas with suspended beds or sofas? They are the more comfortable versions of swings, perfect for spending hours of relaxation on outdoors - perhaps in the shade of trees or porches - during the warm season. Here are some ideas to draw inspiration from:

The most popular DIY project in these instances features using pallets, usually hung from the branches of some very sturdy tree with ropes or chains and then made comfortable by placing various cushions on the pallet.

If there are no trees that can be used, but there is a porch with a robust overhang or a firm canopy, a small (or large!) pallet can be hung here too - and it will also be sheltered from the elements.

There are several projects to follow to build these hanging sofas: sometimes wood is used as for any other carpentry tasks; other projects use old furniture that is converted into benches or even cots.

Hung under trees, these beds are truly an invitation to laze around all summer long!

Lacking robust trees or appropriate architectural structures does not mean that you cannot relax on this furniture: just create supports similar to those used for children's swings.

The load-bearing structures can have many different shapes and styles, as well as vintage-style canopies, which thereby protect the swings a little better from inclement weather.

For larger beds, you can also consider creating a kind of gazebo, all made with wood and having a rustic flavor.

The idea of installing this furniture on a wooden platform with a pergola in the middle of a clump of trees is also very nice.

Or maybe even build a simple canopy-like structure complete with curtains, and hang the ropes that hold the bed or sofa on hooks screwed into the supporting poles.
